Has anyone else had the problem of the video training not working with the current version of xCode? I am new to iOS and xCode and was hoping this series would help train me in this product like the advertising. 1st exercise failed and generated something totally different from what the video training said it would, also the basic 1st exercise did not work. I feel this Chris is not maintaining the training as the video is using 2 full versions behind of xCode so there have been enough changes to make the videos obsolete. They have not returned my request for assistance for 3 days now, I am asking for a return of funds as I feel I have been frauded out of my purchase amount. Since Chris and his staff are not responding, how does anyone else get anything done?
Hi,
which version of xCode and iOS are you using?
Which part is failing?
Can you share your code?
Currently, the WWDC is ongoing and I think they are quite busy with that.
Cheers
David
Thanks, I see what happened, the code generated by xCode v16.4 is generating code that is very different from what the video shows. Since there is no explanation for the difference, I don’t know if I should be using the generated code or changing it to the code shown on the video. I will continue and see what happens…
If I can chime in here as one of the moderators on this site I’ll try and get some help or point you in the right direction to overcome what you are struggling with.
Can you be specific about the course you are following, the lesson number and the video timestamp.
As a general comment you will find as you journey along with iOS Development that Xcode updates are frequent and there may be subtle changes in the way things work and what you see.
To add more confusion into the works, later this year we will see Xcode 26 released (it’s currently in beta). Apple are moving to a year based numbering system rather than what has been the case. The current version is 16.4 so the expectation prior to WWDC25 just completed was that the new version would be Xcode 17. Not the case. So the next version of all the operating systems are all going to be numbered 26. iOS26, tvOS26, iPAD26, macOS26 etc.
I’ve gotten used to the changes that are thrown at us so it’s something that you learn to live with.
The point being is that it’s always a struggle for Chris Ching to keep abreast of the rapid changes in Swift, SwiftUI and Xcode. Whilst updating the courses every time there is an Xcode update or iOS update would be ideal, it is realistically not practical so please make use of this forum to ask questions where you are struggling to understand something. Bear in mind that Apple ship updates to Xcode very often and as a student you end up in the situation that you find yourself in seeing that the way Xcode works in the lesson differs a little to what you are seeing in the version you are using.
Also note that there are many legacy courses and they were created using even older versions of Xcode. There is a warning to that effect when you choose to look through those older courses.
