My iOS Dev Journey! - Capstone App

Hey everyone, my name is Brian and this is the beginning of my capstone project for the Launch Your First App program.

My background is in IT (hardware sales) and I’ve been learning iOS for 6 months.

Ultimately, my goal for learning iOS development is to:

  1. Learn a new skill (building on some old and very basic Fortran and C++ coding from my Uni days (many years ago)).

  2. Spend my spare time on something that stimulates the grey matter as opposed to wasting time on useless social media - which can become all too consuming.

  3. Try and earn some extra $$$s.

So far things are progressing well. The CWC+ course is excellent and my confidence for tackling new challenges is unwavering.

Welcome Brian

Hey everyone,

Not being one for detailing every activity I thought I’d consolidate my updates in this one post.

Having come up with an idea, I wrote down all potential features. I then throttled this down to some core “must haves” or MVP which really helped me focus.

The idea, influenced from one of my kids sports clubs, was to develop an easy way to record a club’s member’s payments. Here is the thing: there are other (more feature rich) apps that do this. However, they are complicated and require a lot setup. My strategy is to make it easy, accessible and with minimal setup.

I followed CWC quite diligently. I used Figma for the wireframe, did the keyword analysis, researched the other apps to help define the look/feel/MVP, used carrd for a landing page and ChatGPT for the privacy policy.

The db course drove me to submit a pre-release version with core functionally and then I refined it in preparation for submission to Apple.

This was done and within 2 days, it was approved and subsequently published.

Much to my amazement (and I’m still quite sceptical on what this means) it reached 22 in the productivity charts - perhaps the AppStore was being kind to me? (you can see the attached screenshot)

So, all in all I’ve had a great learning experience with CWC and now I’m working on another idea applying the same strategy as outlined.

Thanks CWC!!!
