Hi all,

My name is Andy, I have been learning on and off since November of 2019. Mostly via free material online. I don’t have a programming background but have been scripting in bash and unix and modifying perl and python code for about 10 years. I am excited about turning my ideas into reality as Apps for my phone, ipad and computer.

Yay, you’ve come to the right place, Andy! Hope that our tutorials will be able to help you achieve your programming goals. Can’t wait to see your progress. Welcome to the CodeCrew family!

Hello Code Crew

I have been a Systems Engineer for most of my working life. Back when “Systems Engineer” had an entirely different definition. My degree is in Mechanical Engineering. As the information age rapidly developed I found it necessary to adopt and adjust to remain competitive in the Aerospace community. I have had the opportunity to work on several major spacecraft projects specifically in the materials and testing areas. So - I transitioned from a stress engineer to a software developer for a beer distributor, a fish oil producer and a commercial construction company. Now I am a semi-retired volunteer, assisting in SharePoint and PowerApps development for a Hospice non-proffit. The need to iOS development is growing due to the fact that all of the front line medical staff now has their own iPads. That is the main reason that I decided to enroll in CWC+ .

Welcome Don542! I just enrolled in CWC+ this week too. I just discovered that 14 day challenge (free) is the same as module 1 in CWC so if you were planning on reviewing from the beginning you can start with module 1.

You have such a very diverse and interesting background, Don542! Glad to have you here. I hope that your impactful goals will come into fruition. Welcome to the CodeCrew family!

Hello CodeCrew!

My name is Hendric. For the past year and a half, I’ve been a programmer and UI designer on the Roblox platform. When I saw Chris’s video on XCode 11, I wanted to start developing on iOS. As I move into becoming a more independent developer as a Graphic Designer/Video Editor (my dream job is to work at a place called CCV) and an iOS Developer on the side, I joined CodeCrew to help aid me on this journey. So far, this has been a great experience, and I’ve only been here a couple of days!

Hi, my name is Scott. I am 47 years old and have been wanting to learn iOS programming for a long time. I am not a programmer by trade but have been using computers since Apple IIe and Commodore 64. It is the career path I wanted to go when I was younger but due to some circumstances in early life I couldn’t complete the college to do so.

By trade I am an industrial maintenance technician. I had an injury at work that broke 5 of my discs in my neck. I had surgery about 2 months ago and it didn’t go too well. I could basically wiggle my toes after surgery and that was about it. I went back into surgery the very next day and they removed some bone from the back of my neck to relieve more pressure on my spinal cord.

I won’t get into all the details but I can walk now and have some use of my arms and hands. I expect to recover pretty well but will be a long time. Outside of physical therapy I can’t really do too much so now I have the time to learn this.

I look forward to learning more and being part of this community. I hope to have many conversations here. I have actually been on this site for about a month but I am relatively shy so it took me a while to post here.

Let’s gooo, Job! Isn’t that an amazing feeling? When finally, after all the hard work and perseverance, things are finally making sense? Congrats! Keep on going because there’s no stopping you now. Welcome to the CodeCrew family!

Hey,

I started with the free module on Youtube and then proceeded with the two initial monthly app challenges. During the challenges, there was the testimonial promotion ongoing, in which I participated, and received a free months of CWC+.

I’m now in module 4 of the iOS foundation SwiftUI course and I am impressed with the structure how to learn Swift. It is especially great to start simple and then add more features (i.e. EnvironmentObject, adding more details to the JSON file), while the app transforms from a simple view to a tab view to a complex app. In my opinion this is a great approach, better than to start with all the details in an app, which runs just at the end, when every piece of the puzzle fits together.

Long story short, I just purchased the WWDC2021 promotion package and I’m happy to join the CWC+ for at least one year.

If anyone is interested in me as as person:
I’m an engineer at a large pharmaceutical company. My job is to improve existing technology and to introduce new technology to the assembly and packaging departments. For that I use a lot of technologies.
But I want not only use, but to “create” technology. In the past, I wrote some simple apps for Windows Phone/Mobile 8.1/10. Unfortunately, Microsoft was not able to push this glorious OS to the market (especially how they only promoted lower end mobile phones and did not actively promote the transition to Windows 10 Mobile). It was a pain to see this OS suffer :frowning: (insert meme: Look, how they massacred my boy)

When Apple introduced the M1 chip, the BigSur update and lot’s of features to iOS14 (for example widgets and the app drawer, which were common for Windows 10 Mobile), I knew I found my new “home”

My goal is to learn Swift and write some small apps. This is just a hobby. I already have some app ideas, but first I need to learn the basics, and I’m confident that CWC+ is the right approach for that.

So, let’s start coding

Hello,

My name is Karl, i started programming formally in 1994 on Microsoft’s Visual Basic. Programming has very rarely been my primary income, I was a technologist for 25 years (if you were a small business and wanted your computers to do something, I did it - usually networking).

I have since learned a few other languages and wanted badly to pickup IOS. Most IOS courses, are not designed for me. I really like this format - as this is how I taught myself other languages. ie just build something and then iterate through it and learn new skills.
